Behind the scenes with Mezco Homecoming Spider-Man

The Infinity Saga finally comes to a close with Avengers End Game! Within the past decade we’ve had the opportunity to see some of the most beloved characters come to life on the big screen, all within the same cinematic universe. Of all the current 21 films within this saga, my favorite is Spider-Man Homecoming not only for the story, but also the characters – Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker is one of my favorite iterations to date.

My most recent shoot features the Mezco Homecoming Spider-Man which was released earlier this year. In my opinion, it is a contender as one of the best 1:12 scale versions of Spider-Man currently available. Mezco collectibles are known for their soft goods that compliment the impressive sculpts, setting them apart from their competitors in the same scale. Needless to say, the classic character design of Spider-Man translates well to Mezco’s Marvel line, and this series of shots helps to prove that case.

Building – Brick Wall Diorama + Digirama

I’ve been making great use of the custom designed and hand-made Brick Wall Dio, (I actually outlined a How To article within Issue 7 of Exclu Magazine which you can check here ) as seen in this shot

To achieve this angle without using wire, I turned the camera on its side and balanced Spider-Man vertically with the help of some play-doh for support. The shot is then edited and rotated clockwise to achieve the correct perspective. Background image by Robert Bye courtesy of unsplash.com

Washington Monument – Cinder Wall + Digirama

Once again, I utilized the simple camera perspective trick while shooting the Washington Monument scene. This time the angle was a top-down view, which would be extremely challenging to pull off in a practical sense.

Laying the wall horizontally flat allowed for Spider-Man to be free standing without any support, which I’m always a fan of when possible. The monitor, displaying an overhead view of the Washington Monument, directly behind the wall helped provide ground reference for visual context. Hero Pose – Atmosphere Aerosol

Spidey always deserves a dynamic hero pose! As you can see I took the shot with and without the digirama background for some varied options.

Though both work well, I’m happier with the moody scene created with one of my favorite accessories, Atmosphere Aerosol. Although using Atmosphere Aerosol in low-light indoor situations has been a bit more challenging, I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of it. I hope you liked these Spidey-themed shots as much as I enjoyed creating them!
