About +/-

Hello. My name is Jason Yang and I’m an addict – a toy addict, to clarify. When I’m not making a living running my creative studio, Invisible Element, you’ll more than likely find me behind the camera lens, spending more time than I should lighting scenes, posing action figures, and releasing that shutter. I’m hooked and there’s no turning back!

Back in 2015 I started noticing toy photography randomly pop up in my instagram feed. After falling deep into that hashtag rabbit hole, I was inspired to give it a try myself. I already had the props (mostly Star Wars the Black Series 6” action figures) but what I was missing was a proper camera. So at the beginning of 2016 I invested in a Canon 6D that was definitely a step up from my previous model. I pulled a few of my favorite figures off of the shelf in my office and just started shooting. The first images I captured with my new professional camera exceeded my expectations and provided a boost of confidence that kept me interested in shooting.

It wasn’t until I posted my first photo to instagram that I realized how fulfilling this hobby would ultimately become in my life. As I continued to share my toy photos, I began developing friendships with several other people within the community. To this day I regularly talk with a handful of friends day in and day out. Over time I’ve come to recognize that really it’s the community that keeps me engaged and inspired to keep pursuing toy photography.
